Brazil's Child PreachersChannel 4 / Unreported World
Reporter Seyi Rhodes and Director Mike Healy travel to Brazil to meet some of the country’s newest celebrities – child preachers who attract large crowds who believe the children are in direct contact with God and that some can even perform miracles and cure the sick. Unreported World highlights how these child preachers are at the forefront of the country’s fast-growing evangelical movement – which is gaining in religious and political power.
In tonight’s episode, The Unreported World team travels south to a run-down neighbourhood in Sao Paulo and a church whose pastor belongs to the Assemblies of God, a Pentecostal group with 12 million members in Brazil, including powerful politicians. They promote conservative social values, opposing abortion and gay marriage.
